CloseThe following is a recent testimonial of AFS from a customer.
October 2009
Dear Active Foam Specialists,

Before and after the ceiling of the second floor was sprayed with Icynene insulation by Active Foam Specialists
Mike McNish and his crew did an excellent job applying Icynene to my townhouse's attic, Mansard roof, first-floor, and basement. I am very pleased with the workmanship and detail Mike did while applying the Icynene to all the areas of my home. This was a very extensive project. Mike applied the Icynene exactly the way he said he was going to when he first came to my home to quote my job.
Mike came to my home to take a look at the job and to give me a quote. As he went through my townhouse, he told me what he needed to do to seal my home from the outside.
The Mansard area is a difficult area to seal. Mike told me what he needed to do to seal the Mansard area. He told me he needed to apply a three-inch layer over the inside wall of the Mansard wall. He told me wood transfers cold, so he needed to apply a two-inch layer over the 2" X 4" structure that holds the outside wall of the Mansard. He told me he needed to cover the Rim joist of the second floor that is in the Mansard area.
Mike told me what he needed to do in the attic to seal it from the outside. He told me what he needed to do on the first-floor and around the sill plate and Rim joist along the top of the foundation wall in the basement. Then, he told me what I needed to do to prepare my walls by taking off the drywall and removing the fiberglass Batt insulation.
Icynene was installed during Summer 2009 for this individual.
I did everything I needed to do to prepare my walls for the application of the Icynene.
When Mike's crew came to do the job, they went right to work preparing my home for the application of the Icynene by placing drop-clothes where they would be walking. Then, Mike started in the Mansard area of the second-floor. When he was done, he started applying to the underside of the roof deck. After he was finished, his crew vacuumed my entire attic of the one-and-a- half-foot of cellulose insulation I had blown-in twenty-years ago. The next morning, Mike applied to the first-floor walls and over the foundation wall's sill/Rim joist area.
At the end of each day, Mike's crew cleaned my home of all the shaved Icynene. My floors were vacuumed clean.
When the job was finished, Mike did everything he told me he was going to do when he first came to inspect the job. I was very pleased. Each member of his crew was courteous, respectful, and very careful in my home.
My first telephone contact with Active Foam Specialists was with Kristeen Keyzer. I had many questions about the application of Icynene in my home. She took the time to answer every question I had. This was going to be a big project and I wanted to make sure I would get what I was paying for. Looking at the entire time from my first contact with her to the excellent result at the end of the job, I believe I received more than what I paid for.
I thank Mike McNish and his crew for doing an excellent job applying Icynene in my home.
Sincerely,
Steven

Bedroom ceiling area

These photos are of the bedroom ceiling area. During the installation of the foam to the underside of the roof deck, the ceiling over this bedroom disconnected from the attic joists due to the inadequate securing of the ceiling drywall to these joists in 1976. These photos show the lack of structural support originally left by the contractor in 1976 when the townhouse was built. The first two photos show joist hangers on the ends of the 2" X 4"s. These joist hangers where put in by Jeff McNish Contractors in October 2009 before the ceiling drywall was repaired.

These four photos on the left show the reinforcing Jeff McNish Contractors installed. This includes joist hangers, more 2" X 4" joist supports, and 2" X 6" pieces on the wall's top-plate to screw the ceiling drywall into.

The mansard area

These two photos show the open mansard area in the corner and the closet area in these two locations.

The common wall mansard area between the units was filled from the top to the bottom one-foot wide with Icynene. This sealed-off the open mansard area that surrounds the entire six-unit building.

These five photos on the left are from under the window pictured above. The first photo shows the fiberglass Batt insulation between the wall studs. The next photos are the same area after the insulation was taken-out.

Master bedroom

These four photos are taken from the master bedroom and from the master bedroom's closet.

First floor areas

The first photo to the right is from the living room. The next two photos are from the dining room and kitchen area.
Basement

The first two photos to the right are of the stairs going into the basement. The last photo is from the basement's laundry/furnace room. Icynene was sprayed in the rim joist well between the concrete foundation and the subfloor. This blocks any draft coming from under the sill plate or rim joist.
